Volunteer

We would welcome the opportunity to have you join our family. Our membership is diverse, ranging from high school, college, and post graduate students to seasoned professionals. Two separate categories, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider and Firefighter/Rescuer provider, allow you to focus your energy specifically on whatever category suits your desires. No previous experience is required.

The prerequisite requirements for membership include a background check, a physical examination which is provided by Montgomery County, and the successful completion of our application process including an interview.

Requirements of membership include standing duty one night a week from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.. as well as training. Training includes basic orientation classes as well as Emergency Medical Technician – Basic certification. Members interested in becoming fire/rescue providers must complete additional classes, including Essentials of Firefighting. All classes are provided for free at the Public Service Training Academy in Rockville, Maryland. We encourage our members to complete mandatory training on a night other than their assigned duty night. Members will also be required to attend the Department’s monthly meeting. If you are a college or post graduate student, you may very well be interested in our live-in program. This is an excellent way to make ends meet during the summer or to save money otherwise even if you have already launched your career. The housing is free. Volunteering with our Department will enable you to have a tremendous impact on your neighbors – oftentimes your actions are integral to saving lives. Help us become the community fire department.
